It's Been a While..
Hello all! I am sorry I have been neglecting my lovely website here. BUT! I am updating now and have some goodies for you all.
This semester I am taking Drawing 2 and it is going AMAZING.
The first project we did was a study of an organic object. It was a series of drawings the first in black and white, the second in it’s local (or true) color and the last was expressive color. I chose to do a blood orange for it’s deep red colors. I think they came out ok.

Expressive Color
My Decision to make this brown and green was because we had been doing this drawing for 3 or so weeks and my orange was sort of rotting. I wanted to make it look like it was gross and squishy. I think it worked.
The next project we did in Drawing 2 was a group drawing. We each got a little square of a larger drawing and didn’t know what the final drawing was supposed to look like until we were all finished. It was an interesting project because it forced us to be as precise as possible so that each square would match up perfectly.

The Image as a Whole
The image turned out to be an aerial view of a body of water in Yellowstone National Park. It is one of those bodies of water that seems to go down forever because it is so deep. The baby in the drawing…well I am still not so sure how that fits in but I didn’t choose it my professor did. I think my favorite part of the drawing is that you can tell each block was done by someone different.
The Next assignment was the elements. We had to choose a part of nature and draw it. So I took pictures of this old hollowed out tree in the Wheaton woods. I decided to play around with the colors and I made the tree turquoise. I chose this color because the tree is very Zen place for me and those colors are very calming as well. I think it sort of looks like it cam from another planet.
The Tree From the Planet Serene
The most recent project that we did was a self-portrait. This was an interesting endeavor. Why? Because the dimensions of the piece had to be 4 by 5 feet. Yes you heard right FEET. I had never worked this large before in my life so I was scared. I chose a photograph that my roommate Jenn took of me last semester and I think it came out great. My professor said it was my best work of the semester and he had me hang it up in the Davis Art Court in the art building, which made my day.
So that is what I have been up to so far this semester. I think I am producing a lot of great work in this class and can’t wait to see where the rest of the semester takes me.

The portrait is really awesome. I mean really. You got your impish expression exactly right. I find the tree drawing really intriguing, especially with the choice of an orange background. Zen/passion dichotomy, due to the color contrast, I’d be interested to talk to you about your philosophy on that one.
And huzzah for rotting fruit.
Love!

I’m really proud of you. These latest pieces really shows your commitment to your craft. In your self portrait, just the way you show expression even though half your face is covered by Norman is awesome.
